Winter is basketball season for the Breakers. Boys and girls varsity compete through the Maine Principals' Association, supported by developmental levels across the school.

Meet the Varsity Basketball Coaches

Three of Pine Tree Academy's four varsity head coaches are former Breakers student-athletes who came back to lead the next generation.

Boys Varsity Basketball

Jeff Davis

Head Coach

Davis played at Pine Tree Academy grades 6-10, then grades 11-12 at Shenandoah Valley Academy in Virginia. He then competed in NCAA Division II basketball and soccer at Columbia Union College and semi-pro basketball in the Washington DC Pro-Am League. He also has international experience playing professional basketball in Switzerland for Bernex Basket, as well as in France for EM Lyon (University) where he was the team captain as well as coach of the university women's team.

Josh Dayen

Head Coach & Athletic Director

A former Pine Tree Academy varsity player, Dayen has coached the PTA girls varsity basketball program since 2012, winning over 100 games, and taking his Breaker teams to the State Regional Semi-Finals. A graduate of Southwestern Adventist University, he also serves as PTA's Athletic Director, bringing a firsthand understanding of the school to both roles.

A tournament season on two coasts: MPA regional and state tournament basketball in Maine, a 16-team national Adventist academy tournament in California, and playoff qualifiers at every developmental level.

5th & 6th of 16 at the PUC Pioneers Invitational

Both varsity teams traveled to Pacific Union College in California for the 2026 Pioneers Invitational. The boys finished 5th of 16 and the girls finished 6th of 16, including a 48-38 win over Paradise Adventist Academy.

Boys JV

MCSSL Playoff Qualifier

PTA is the only JV team in the MCSSL, facing Christian-school varsity teams and still reaching the playoffs.

Middle School

Co-ed Grades 5-6 and Grades 7-8 MCSSL Playoff Qualifiers

Maine splits each class into 2 regions, so a Regional Semifinal is the statewide Elite 8 stage and a Regional Final is the statewide Final 4.

A developmental level for boys basketball, bridging middle school play and the varsity standard. As the only JV team in the MCSSL, the Breakers face Christian-school varsity teams and still qualified for the league playoffs.
