Breakers Fall Just Short in 2–1 Battle with Mountain Valley
By Breakers Media Team · September 24, 2026
The Pine Tree Academy girls varsity soccer team put together one of its strongest offensive performances of the season Thursday afternoon, battling Mountain Valley High School to the final minutes before falling 2–1 at Pine Tree Academy.
The Breakers and Falcons played through a scoreless first half, heading into halftime tied 0–0. PTA enjoyed extended periods of offensive possession and generated multiple shots on goal while showing strong passing and shot selection.
Pine Tree Academy broke through shortly after halftime with a well-worked attacking combination.
Chantal Mbonimpa sent a cross into the attacking area, Lisette Hakizimana got a touch on the ball, and Alana Cardoza finished the opportunity into the net to give the Breakers a 1–0 lead.
The advantage did not last long. Mountain Valley responded within a few minutes, connecting on a long-distance shot from just across midfield to even the match at 1–1.
From there, the game developed into a back-and-forth battle. Both teams continued looking for the go-ahead goal as the end of regulation approached.
Mountain Valley eventually found the breakthrough late in the game, scoring its second goal to take a 2–1 lead and prevent the match from reaching overtime.
Despite the result, Pine Tree Academy's defense turned in a strong performance, showing good pressure, coverage, and communication along the back line. Goalkeeper Daphne Poirier recorded seven saves, including several important stops that helped keep the match close.
Maddie Jones highlighted the team's communication throughout the game, including contributions from players coming off the bench and the ability of players to adjust to new positions.
The Breakers also continued to show progress going forward. PTA created opportunities throughout the match and combined strong passing with good shot selection in what the team felt was one of its strongest offensive performances of the season.
After a scoreless opening half, the Breakers took the lead through the combination of Mbonimpa, Hakizimana, and Cardoza. Mountain Valley answered quickly, and the teams remained locked in a tight battle until the Falcons found the deciding goal late to secure the 2–1 victory.
