Breakers Finish Long Road Trip with 8–0 Mercy-Rule Win at Rangeley
By Breakers Media Team · October 6, 2026
Pine Tree Academy boys varsity soccer capped a long road trip with an 8–0 mercy-rule victory at Rangeley on Tuesday, October 6, combining composed possession with high-quality finishing and a balanced attack.
Despite the lengthy drive, the Breakers set the tone in the first half. PTA moved the ball with patience and confidence, stringing together effective possession sequences and finishing its opportunities with precision.
Lucky Kabeya and Fitzroy Hakizimana led the scoring with two goals apiece. Santi Lopez, Rio Soram, Rhett Tyson and Collin Verrill each added one, giving Pine Tree Academy six different scorers and eight goals in all. Santi Lopez also contributed an assist, while Verrill helped orchestrate the attack with two assists to go with his goal.
After a brief dip in energy during the second half, the Breakers regrouped and maintained their composure through a physical, occasionally chippy stretch of play. Their response kept the attack moving and carried PTA to the mercy-rule finish.
Under Maine's mercy rule, a game ends halfway through the second half when a team leads by seven goals or more. Pine Tree Academy's 8–0 margin triggered that ending, giving the Breakers an earlier start on the long drive home through Maine's mountain region at peak fall foliage.
The win keeps Pine Tree Academy second in the current MPA South 8-Person standings with a game in hand, keeping the Breakers firmly in the race for the top seed as the regular season winds down.
The Breakers return home Friday, October 9, to face the Carrabec Cobras — listed as Carrabec/Madison on the schedule — at 4:00 PM at Pine Tree Academy in Freeport.
