Breakers Open Pre-Season with Strong Showing at Richmond

By Breakers Media Team · August 27, 2026

RICHMOND, Maine — Pine Tree Academy’s boys varsity soccer team opened the 2026-27 school year Thursday, August 27, with a preseason scrimmage at Richmond. It was the first event of the school year for Pine Tree Academy and the boys’ first time playing this season.

The Breakers entered the scrimmage against a Richmond program that has traditionally been one of the strongest smaller-school soccer programs in the area. Richmond competes one Maine Principals’ Association classification higher than PTA, making the afternoon an encouraging early opportunity for Pine Tree Academy to test itself against a strong opponent.

PTA controlled much of the scrimmage in field position, possession, and attacking opportunities. The Breakers created long stretches of pressure and showed an attacking approach against a team with an established record of success among the area’s smaller schools. The performance gave the team an early foundation to build on as the season approaches.

The scrimmage was played as two half-games, giving both teams two separate segments of competition. Pine Tree Academy won the first segment 1-0. In the second segment, the score was tied 1-1 until Richmond scored with four seconds remaining to win that segment 2-1.

Several Pine Tree Academy players were playing new positions, adding another layer to the team’s first time on the field this season.

"I'm really proud of our guys how they competed start to finish, played on the front foot, and kept the attacking pressure. It was their first time playing this season, several are playing new positions, and I know they will only get better as we move forward with the season." — Jess Remmes-Davis, coach

The Richmond scrimmage offered an early look at the level and opportunity ahead for Pine Tree Academy’s boys varsity program. The Breakers hope to build on the performance, have a strong season, and compete for a state championship.
