Breakers Shut Down Telstar 1–0, Stay Perfect and Secure South's Top Seed
By Breakers Media Team · October 15, 2026
Lucky Kabeya scores the winner as Pine Tree Academy avenges last year's heartbreaking regional championship defeat and takes another major step toward a state title.
FREEPORT, Maine — Nearly a year after Telstar ended Pine Tree Academy's season with a heartbreaking double-overtime victory in the regional championship, the Breakers finally had their chance for revenge Thursday afternoon.
This time it was Pine Tree Academy celebrating, and WMTW Channel 8 was on site for the occasion.

Behind a decisive goal from Lucky Kabeya and another outstanding defensive performance, the Breakers defeated previously unbeaten Telstar 1–0 in front of a packed home crowd, improving to 10–0 and delivering perhaps their biggest regular-season victory in recent memory.
The matchup brought together the top two teams in eight-person South. Telstar arrived with an 11–0 record, while PTA had won its first nine games, setting the stage for a rematch of last November's regional final, which Telstar won 1–0 in double overtime.
Thursday's encounter would be decided by the same score — but with a very different ending.
Lucky Delivers, Defense Stands Tall
Pine Tree Academy controlled much of the possession, patiently working to break down a Telstar defense that had frustrated opponents throughout the season.
The breakthrough finally came midway through the second half when Kabeya, playing in central midfield, reacted quickly to a rebound and produced an acrobatic finish in front of goal for his 13th goal of the season.
One goal was all the Breakers needed.
Rhett Tyson, Ben Christman and Rio Soram anchored a determined defensive effort that kept Telstar scoreless.
Soram, a sophomore, was named Man of the Match by head coach Jess Remmes Davis for his tireless work rate in Thursday's victory, impacting both ends of the field by stopping opponents' attacks and creating opportunities for his teammates.
Junior goalkeeper Abner Poland rose to the occasion with two crucial saves, denying a dangerous breakaway and later making a spectacular full-extension diving stop.
Despite a tense finish, PTA maintained its composure and protected the narrow advantage to secure its sixth consecutive shutout. The Breakers have conceded just two goals through their first 10 games.
A Victory That Changes the Playoff Picture
Beyond preserving their unbeaten record, Thursday's victory mathematically secured Pine Tree Academy the No. 1 seed in eight-person South.
Put simply, the Breakers have built such a strong lead in the playoff rankings that, based on the remaining countable schedules, their closest competitors cannot catch them — even if PTA loses its final two regular-season games.
That gives Pine Tree Academy home-field advantage throughout the regional playoffs, a major benefit as the Breakers pursue a championship.
For a program that saw its championship hopes end against Telstar last November, securing the top position makes Thursday's victory even sweeter.
A Special Day for Breakers Athletics
The showdown also marked the debut of Pine Tree Academy's newly installed HD livestream camera, allowing supporters to watch the matchup through the NFHS Network.
With a perfect season still intact, the Breakers now turn toward their final regular-season games and the postseason, hoping the victory over their biggest rival is another step toward a state championship.
Final: Pine Tree Academy 1, Telstar 0.
