The Pine Tree Academy middle school soccer team used an aggressive attack and contributions throughout its roster Tuesday afternoon to earn a 7–2 victory over Pen Bay Christian School at Pine Tree Academy.
The Breakers applied heavy offensive pressure from the opening minutes, establishing control early and consistently creating opportunities around the Pen Bay goal.
Five different players found the net for Pine Tree Academy. Winnie Brace and Sam Cornish led the scoring with two goals each, while Granten Verrill, Nora Lounder, and Nelson Piehl each added a goal.
PTA continued to generate opportunities throughout the match, with several players contributing shots and helping maintain pressure in the attacking end.
Pen Bay started the second half slowly but eventually found its rhythm and responded with several dangerous attacking runs. The visitors came extremely close to adding to their total on multiple occasions, including attempts that struck the crossbar and goalposts.
Clever Mugiraneza took over in goal for Pine Tree Academy in the second half and was tested during Pen Bay’s strongest stretches of offensive pressure. Mugiraneza responded with a number of outstanding saves to help protect the Breakers’ advantage.
The game also provided another opportunity for Pine Tree Academy to develop its roster beyond the final score. Coach Garcia highlighted the ability to rotate players and give younger members of the team meaningful minutes, continuing an important emphasis from PTA’s previous game.
Coach Garcia also pointed to the continued development of the girls as leaders within the team as another positive takeaway from the victory.
With contributions throughout the lineup, the Breakers combined a balanced scoring attack with opportunities for player development. Pen Bay created some dangerous chances in the second half, but Mugiraneza’s strong play in goal helped PTA maintain control and finish off the 7–2 home victory.
