FREEPORT, Maine — October 9, 2026 — Friday afternoon’s matchup between 2nd-place Pine Tree Academy and 3rd-place Carrabec/Madison carried major implications for the MPA Boys 8-Person South standings. The Breakers rose to the occasion with a dominant 8–0 victory, powered by 4 goals from Collin Verrill, to move into 1st place with a game in hand over 2nd-place Telstar.

Breakers Take Control Early

Pine Tree Academy took control of the match early, building a 3–0 advantage by halftime. The Breakers continued their offensive surge after the break, adding 5 more goals in the 2nd half.

With approximately 15 minutes remaining, the match ended under the mercy rule, sealing an emphatic victory in a contest between 2 of the region’s top 3 teams.

Verrill Leads the Attack

Collin Verrill delivered a standout performance with 4 goals and 1 assist, leading a balanced offensive effort that saw several Breakers contribute.

8th-grader Sam Cornish played a major role in the victory, recording 3 assists and drawing a penalty kick. His performance highlighted the impact PTA’s younger players are making at the varsity level.

Lucky Kabeya and Santiago Lopez each contributed 1 goal and 1 assist, while Alpha Kabagambe added another goal. Rio Soram converted the penalty kick drawn by Cornish to complete PTA’s 8-goal performance.

Breakers Move into 1st Place

The victory carried significance beyond the final score. Entering the match in 2nd place, PTA faced a 3rd-place Carrabec/Madison team with plenty at stake in the regional standings.

The Breakers’ convincing win propelled them into 1st place in MPA Boys 8-Person South, ahead of Telstar with a game in hand over the 2nd-place Rebels.

With the regular season approaching its conclusion, PTA has positioned itself strongly in the race for postseason seeding.
