Breakers Battle Wiscasset to Scoreless Draw in Double Overtime

By Breakers Media Team · September 11, 2026

The Pine Tree Academy girls varsity soccer team battled Wiscasset through regulation and two overtime periods Friday afternoon, with neither side able to find the breakthrough in a 0–0 draw at Pine Tree Academy.

The Breakers put together a strong team performance on both ends of the field, generating numerous offensive opportunities while keeping the Wolverines off the scoreboard throughout the match.

Pine Tree Academy continued using three defenders in the back, and the back line responded well even when Wiscasset pushed additional players forward into the attack. Maddie Jones was a major defensive presence for the Breakers, repeatedly clearing dangerous balls from in front of the net.

Behind the defense, goalkeeper Daphne Poirier delivered another strong performance, recording 17 saves to preserve the shutout through regulation and both overtime periods.

The Breakers also created opportunities at the other end of the field but were unable to find the finishing touch. Both teams continued battling through two overtime periods without a goal, leaving the match deadlocked at 0–0.

Chantal Mbonimpa described the match as a “real nail-biter” and felt the Breakers had opportunities to come away with the victory. She also highlighted the strong performance of Wiscasset's center back, who helped prevent PTA from converting its attacking opportunities.

After allowing four first-half goals against Temple Academy one day earlier before shutting the Bereans out in the second half, the Breakers carried that improved defensive play into Friday's match. This time, Pine Tree Academy kept its opponent off the scoreboard from start to finish.

The result reflected a complete defensive effort from the Breakers, who remained composed through regulation and two overtimes while continuing to create opportunities going forward.
