Tyson’s First Career Hat Trick Powers PTA Past Temple 8–0 and Into Regional Final
By Camden Brace · October 30, 2026
FREEPORT, Maine — Pine Tree Academy punched its ticket to the regional final Friday, October 30, with a commanding 8–0 victory over Temple Academy in the MPA 8-Person South regional semifinal (state quarterfinal) at The Tidal Zone. The match ended by mercy rule with about five minutes remaining.
Tyson’s First Career Hat Trick
Senior captain Rhett Tyson, normally a center back and the Breakers’ defensive leader, moved forward during the game and scored three goals — the first hat trick of his high school career.
Camden Brace opened the scoring and finished with one goal and one assist. Fitzroy Hakizimana added two goals and one assist, Lucky Kabeya scored once, and Rio Soram netted the goal that triggered the mercy rule. Alpha Kabagambe contributed an assist to go with an excellent performance in midfield.
Another Shutout
The defensive effort was just as important. Tyson, Rio Soram, Ben Christman and the back line, alongside goalkeeper Abner Poland, kept Temple off the scoreboard. Through two playoff games, the Breakers have outscored their opponents 13–0 (Rangeley 5–0, Temple 8–0), and they now stand at 85 goals scored and just 2 allowed this season.
Telstar Rematch for the Regional Title
Pine Tree Academy will face No. 2 seed Telstar in the regional final on Tuesday, November 3, at 4:00 PM at Gardiner High School. It is a rematch of last year’s regional final, which Telstar won 1–0.
