2025-26 Season in Review: A Year of Breakers Milestones

FREEPORT, Maine — The 2025-26 school year gave Pine Tree Academy student-athletes their deepest stretch of postseason competition in recent memory, with varsity programs reaching Maine Principals' Association tournament play and both varsity basketball teams traveling across the country to compete in California.
In the fall, boys soccer advanced to the 2025 MPA 8-Person South Regional Final. The run carried the Breakers into the final weekend of the regional bracket and set the tone for the athletic year.
Winter brought two more postseason appearances. The boys basketball team reached the 2026 MPA Class S South Regional Semifinal, and the girls basketball team competed in the Class S South tournament quarterfinal.
Between those runs, both varsity basketball teams traveled to California for the Pacific Union College Pioneers Invitational, where the boys finished 5th out of 16 teams and the girls finished 6th out of 16 against schools considerably larger than Pine Tree Academy.
The trip also produced individual recognition: Collin Verrill was named to the PUC All Tournament Team, and Rhett Tyson earned the tournament's Champion of Character Award.
Competing through the Maine Principals' Association means Breakers teams play a full varsity schedule with a real path to state tournaments — an opportunity a small Christ-centered school in Freeport does not take for granted.

Boys Soccer: Sammy Batista, East-West Conference All Star Team. Miguel Matos, East-West Conference All Star Team, East-West Conference Player of the Year, and MSC State All Star Team.
Girls Soccer: Chantal Mbonimpa, East-West Conference All Star Team. Daphne Poirier, East-West Conference All Star Team and MSC State All Star Team.
Boys Basketball: Collin Verrill, East-West Conference All Star Team and PUC All Tournament Team. Lucky Kabeya, East-West Conference All Star Team. Rhett Tyson, East-West Conference All Star Team.
Girls Basketball: Chantal Mbonimpa, East-West Conference All Star Team. Camden Chase, East-West Conference Scholar Athlete Award.
The programs behind those varsity teams kept building as well, from Littles through middle school and boys JV basketball, where the next group of Breakers is developing inside the same pathway.
Attention turns now to 2026-27, with boys soccer already back on the field and the winter programs preparing for another run at the tournament.
