Historic First: PTA Boys Defeat Richmond 3–1 in Playoff Tune-Up
By Breakers Media Team · October 22, 2026
FREEPORT, Maine — Pine Tree Academy’s boys varsity soccer team made history Thursday afternoon, defeating Richmond High School 3–1 for the program’s first-ever boys’ soccer victory over the Bobcats. Although this scrimmage does not count toward either team’s official record, the result is a breakthrough against a Richmond program with 11 boys state championships and a confidence boost for next week’s playoffs.
The opening period was played 11-on-11, Richmond’s usual game format. PTA scored twice in the first six minutes, beating the Bobcats at their own game and setting the tone for an impressive afternoon. The fast start underscored the Breakers’ ability to adapt while maintaining their attacking identity.
PTA delivered its best overall team performance of the season, combining tactical discipline, progressive passing and superior creation of chances. The defense and goalkeeper made timely interventions, complementing the attack with composed, coordinated work across the field.
The second half shifted to 8-on-8 to prepare Pine Tree Academy for its tournament format. Richmond finished the regular season 3–9–2 against demanding larger-school opposition and is fourth-ranked in the higher Class D South. The Bobcats’ challenging schedule and championship tradition made them a strong playoff-preparation opponent.
PTA remains officially 12–0–0 and No. 1 in 8-Person South. Thursday’s scrimmage changes neither team’s official record, and does not affect PTA’s official results or Heal points. The Breakers now carry the confidence from this historic performance into next week’s playoffs.
Final scrimmage score: PTA 3–1 Richmond. Goals: Lucky Kabeya 2; Collin Verrill 1. Assists: Fitzroy Hakizimana 1; Alpha Kabagambe 1.
