GAME DAY: Breakers Host Richmond in Playoff Preparation Scrimmage

FREEPORT, Maine — Thursday, October 22, 2026

Pine Tree Academy hosts Richmond today at 4:00 PM for a boys varsity soccer playoff preparation scrimmage. The Breakers completed their regular season undefeated at 12–0–0 and are No. 1 in the South eight-person standings, as reported in the site's perfect-season recap. Today's scrimmage is preparation, not a regular-season or playoff result.

Richmond is a good team despite its win-loss record. Coach Jeff Davis reports that the Bobcats are 3–9–2 after a difficult schedule played mostly against teams from larger divisions. Their record alone does not capture the quality of the opponent the Breakers will face.

Richmond also brings a deep soccer tradition: the Maine Soccer Coaches Association record book credits Richmond boys with 11 historic MPA state championships in Classes C and D, in its records covering championships since 1970—not a claim that those titles were all recent.

The teams met in the preseason in two shortened games, with PTA winning the first and Richmond the second. Now both teams are preparing for next week's playoffs, making today's meeting a valuable opportunity to sharpen their play against a strong opponent.
